Romania and Moldova sign a military partnership under the EU's SAFE programme, with joint purchases of military equipment

At Victoria Palace in Bucharest, Romania and the Republic of Moldova signed an agreement under the EU's SAFE programme to buy military equipment together, starting with nearly 3,000 vehicles made by Italy's Iveco Defence Vehicles.

Romania and the Republic of Moldova have signed a military partnership agreement under the EU's SAFE programme, at Victoria Palace in Bucharest, the seat of the Romanian government. The agreement covers the joint purchase of military equipment and technology. Moldova will buy, together with the Romanian Army, military vehicles made by Italian industry. Technologies to counter drones are also being considered. The first concrete initiative under the agreement is the joint purchase of almost 3,000 military vehicles made by the Italian company IDV (Iveco Defence Vehicles). As a result, the Republic of Moldova will have direct access to the EU's procurement and equipment mechanisms through Romania. The report, published on 2 November 2026 by Europa FM, features statements from Romania's Prime Minister Luca Niculescu, Romania's Defence Minister Radu Oprea and Moldova's Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatii, available as audio on the Europa FM page linked below.
